Description

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, commonly abbreviated NAD+, is a ubiquitous coenzyme found throughout living cells. It exists in oxidized and reduced forms and plays a central role in transferring electrons during cellular metabolic reactions.

Beyond its role in energy metabolism, NAD+ participates in enzyme systems involved in DNA repair, cellular signaling, and regulation of metabolic processes. Because cellular  levels and dependent enzymes have been associated with aging, metabolic stress, mitochondrial biology, and cellular resilience, NAD+ remains an active area of laboratory research.

NAD+ research is particularly relevant when studying mitochondrial function and cellular energy systems. It is complementary to mitochondrial-derived peptides such as MOTS-C and mitochondrial-targeted compounds such as SS-31, although NAD+ itself is a coenzyme rather than a peptide.
